it’s a small world - Disney is the best

it’s a small world” — The children of the world host this simplistic yet charming, whimsical, gentle boat ride. Small boats glide along the international waters and you are very quickly surrounded by dancing dolls, animals and flowers, singing that now almost infamous song, “It’s a Small World.”
As your boat serenely glides along the 1,085-foot canal for 10 1/2 minutes, you’ll be entertained by 289 Audio-Animatronics Doll Figures, 147 toys and 36 animated props. Each room you pass through has a theme, with the Audio-Animatronics outfitted in clothing and with props that reflect their respective cultures. The major themes include: Europe, Asia, Africa, Central/South America, South Pacific Islands, the Finale and the Good-bye Scene.

HIDDEN MICKEY: In the Africa scene, there’s a Hidden Mickey in the purple flowers on a vine on the elephant’s left side.

Small World

found these fun facts here SMALL WORLD

10 Fun Facts about “it’s a small world” in Disneyland:

1. “it’s a small world” – the song. Everyone knows the words to this song. It’s a joyful melody that repeats as you sail your boat through the countries of the world. The song was written by Richard and Robert Sherman, the famous duo that contributed to many Disney movies and attractions. The song plays well over 1,000 times during a typical operating day at “it’s a small world” in Disneyland. It’s truly a magical song when you realize that it was created to be easily translated into any language, becoming another world-unifying effort of the attraction. Did you know that, since the opening of Disneyland Paris, “it’s a small world” is being played somewhere in the world every minute of every day?
2. Identical dolls. There are over 240 animated figures in “it’s a small world” in Disneyland. The majority are children and their faces were created to be identical. While the attire, skin color and location may change, the attraction reminds us that we are all the same in some way.
3. Disney characters. At the beginning of 2009, renovation was completed on “it’s a small world” in Disneyland. Along with updated technology and props, some iconic Disney characters were placed among the scenes of the world. Each appears in the land where their respective movie was set. Try to find them all on your next trip, including:
  • Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Tinker Bell.
  • Cinderella and her mouse friends, Jack and Gus Gus.
  • Pinnochio and Jiminy Cricket.
  • Aladdin and Jasmine.
  • The Three Caballeros; Donald, Jose and Panchito.
  • Mulan and her friend Mushu the Dragon.
  • Simba, Pumba and Timon – Hakuna Matata indeed.
  • Ariel and Flounder, and Lilo and Stitch can be found near each other.
  • Woody, Bullseye and Jessie.
4. Whimsical details. Mary Blair was the design genius behind “it’s a small world” in Disneyland. Walt loved her playful style and the fun details that she brought to each aspect of the ride. There’s something new to see every time you ride, but we personally love these fun details the most:
  • A windy sea serpent.
  • The Canadian Mountie doing jumping jacks.
  • A drum playing zebra and rhino.
  • Break dancing penguins.
  • A crocodile with an umbrella.
  • One of the children of the world looks very similar to designer Mary Blair.
  • A saxophone playing Santa during the holidays.
  • Hidden mickeys all throughout. Keep your eye out for several shadows and designs that display the iconic symbol.
5. Water from the Seven Seas. When “it’s a small world” moved from the World’s Fair to Disneyland, Walt wanted to create a special celebration. He invited children from around the world to come in their traditional garb and bring a vessel containing water from the nearest sea. Combined, the children contained vials from each of the Seven Seas. As they commemorated the opening of “it’s a small world” in Disneyland, the children poured the water into the ride’s river, symbolically uniting the world.

6. The moon and sun. The lyrics that play through “it’s a small world” in Disneyland suggest that we all live on one planet, under just one moon and one golden sun. To enhance this idea, a moon and sun has been placed in each area of the world that you voyage through on the ride. It’s meant to imply that no matter where you are in the world, you’re under the same moon and sun as everyone else.
7. “it’s a small world” Holiday. During the Holidays at the Disneyland Resort, “it’s a small world” transforms. Extra lights, music and magical touches make it a fan favorite during the festive celebration. You’ll notice a new scent of peppermint and pine as you voyage through the world. There’s also a Christmas tree in England that’s decorated with over 150 candles. The mermaids sing about dashing through the foam. The finale becomes a winter wonderland with all the children dressed in white and giant displays of a snowman. The only thing that can top the holiday overlay inside the ride is the holiday façade on the attraction’s building. Over 50,000 holiday lights are used to make “it’s a small world” in Disneyland even more magical than before!

8. The clock. This may be the most amazing clock in the world. The clock that stands in front of the “it’s a small world” façade is a living clock, meaning it comes alive every 15 minutes. At each 15-minute mark, the door open and the children of the world dance to celebrate the time. If you’re standing in line for the attraction, keep an eye out for the two jesters that appear to announce the time of day before each small celebration. During the holidays, a special projection will reveal even more magic behind the clock each time it comes alive.

9. The skyline. Walt Disney wanted to make every party of Disneyland special, often adding small, but dazzling details to do so. For “it’s a small world,” he proposed that the weather vanes and tops of the attraction be covered in real gold. If you look closely at the skyline of “it’s a small world,” you’ll notice many of the world’s icons emblazoned and white and gold. It’s another ode to the peace and joy that the world’s children hold in their hearts.
10. Living sculptures. Through the grounds of “it’s a small world” in Disneyland, you’ll notice topiaries. There are several animals, fish and Disney characters adorning the happiest cruise on earth. Not many people know this, but it takes over five years to grow just one of the living sculptures. It goes to show just how much care that Disneyland puts into every single detail.
its a small world at Disneyland Sculptures
These are only a handful of fun facts about “it’s a small world” in Disneyland. We notice something new every time we ride, whether it’s a new character or worldly details. One thing that always remains the same is the peace, joy, happiness and reminder of childhood that the attraction stands for. It’s a magical story book that reminds us that world peace is possible if we all work together. After all, we are the same one way or another.

City Hall - Disneyland

I needed a place to put this so I would remember and what better place than my blog :)
***I need to add my pictures

The faux bookcase is located in City Hall, and can easily be overlooked. Examine each of the book titles and their authors, you will be surprised.
• Alice in Wonderland by The Hatter
• Cinderella by Drusilla / Anastasia
• Mickey Mouse by Disney
• Lillybelle by W. E. Disney
• Wonderful World of Color
Hunchback of Notre Dame by Quasimodo
• Mary Poppins by The Banks
• Walt and You by Sidejas, Kimbrell (1)
• Pollyana by Polly Harrington
• The Real Little Mermaid by Scuttle
• Lambert the Sheepish Lion
by Peet, Wright & Banta (2)
• Aladdin by Abu
Hercules by Megara
• Sleeping Beauty by Flora, Fauna and Merryweather
• Jungle Book by Mancub
• Pinocchio by J. Cricket
• 101 Dalmations by DeVille
• Beauty and the Beast by Cogsworth and Lumiere
Snow White by Seven Authors
• Mulan by Mulan
• Peter Pan by The Lost Boys
• The Sign Painting Course by Matthews (3)

Let's take a look at some of the books you'll find in the bookcase at City Hall and what they might mean!

What's important to notice with these books is the author. In some cases, it might give us an interesting insight into the character and storyline. Imagine if the Hatter had written Alice in Wonderland?

I assume that this version of Cinderella by Drusilla and Anastasia tells quite a different tale.

We've got Mickey Mouse written by Disney and Lillybelle by W.E. Disney. Is Lillybelle a book about his wife or the engine from the Carolwood-Pacific? Could it be a reference to the private car on the Disneyland Railroad?

Lots of great titles in this section! Wonderful World of Color is a reference to the classic television show and by extension, the new fountain show at California Adventure.

Hunchback of Notre Dame by Quasimodo is pretty obvious.

The Banks wrote Mary Poppins. Of course, Mary Poppins is the nanny to the Banks family: George; Winifred; Jane; and Michael. I'd like to read what the different family members thought about the practically perfect Poppins.

Walt and You has two authors: Sidejas and Kimbrell. Ray Sidejas was the former operations manager for custodial services. Bruce Kimbrell is with the Disney Institute and wrote the Disney training program, Walt Disney and You.

Jane Wyman played Polly Harrington in the film (and book) Pollyanna. She was Pollyanna's aunt in the town of Harrington.

It seems like Scuttle (definitely not a guppy) wrote this version of the Little Mermaid while Abu, the scene-stealing monkey penned Aladdin.

Lambert the Sheepish Lion, was a 1952 animated short that was written by Bill Peet, Ralph Wright and Milt Banta.

Hercules was penned by none other than Megara (hands down, she is my favorite Disney heroine).

Sleeping Beauty was written by Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, also known as the three good fairies.

Mancub wrote the Jungle Book. It's probably safe to assume that his tale is a little different from the published works and the animated feature.

J. Cricket wrote Pinocchio. It's probably safe to assume that he's no fool.

The last book in this section is 101 Dalmatians by DeVille. Her version might be a little spotty, though.

Cogsworth and Lumiere penned Beauty and the Beast. It's probably a tale as old as time, with some great banter.

Snow White was written by Seven Authors. Telling the story from seven different points a view was a spectacular idea; more authors should work together like this.

The true autobiography on this shelf, Mulan was written by herself. It's a strong tale of heroes, family and love.

The Lost Boys talk about Peter Pan. It's an inspiring tale of never growing up and finding your marbles.

The last book is The Sign Painting Course by Matthews. This is a reference to a real book by author E.C. Matthews, who also wrote other titles about sign painting, animation and illustration in the late 1920s.

Eric Christian Matthews lived from 1892-1977. I would assume that his books were in the studio library and might have influenced the earliest animates shorts (title cards) and, quite possibly, the various windows throughout Disneyland.

The above article is titled "City Hall Reading" written by George Taylor and courtesy of MiceChat

(1) Ray Sidejas, Manager, Disneyland Custodial Guest Services Bruce Kibrell wrote Disney and You in-house Disney training handbook

(2) Lambert the Sheepish Lion - a 1952 Disney animated short, written by Bill Peet, Ralph Wright & Milt Banta. The 8-minute film was nominated for an Academy Award in the category Best Short Subject, Cartoons.

(3) The Sign Painting Course is a real book by E.C. (Eric Christian) Mathews. He also wrote How to Draw Funny Pictures: A Complete Course in Cartooning.

Hidden Mickeys

For Christmas this year I bought myself a year of Disney. Yes I have an annual pass for 2018.
One thing that I would like to do is find all the hidden Mickeys. Wanda and I each have a book while they are different they have some similarities. This makes for a great day.
We did our first Hidden Mickey hunt on 1/14/2018.
Here are a few of the mickeys we found in fantasyland.

Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Mary Poppins includes a score filled with timeless classics such as "Feed the Birds," "Jolly Holiday," "Step in Time," and the Academy Award-winning "Chim-Chim Cher-ee." The jack-of-all-trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family how to value each other again. Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards including Best Musical.
