Why Recycle?

Today is America Recycles Day! We are often reminded to recycle, but we may not always realize how important it really is. Here’s why:
–Each American uses an average of 100 gallons of water a day—enough to fill 1,600 drinking glasses.
–We throw away enough aluminum every month to rebuild our entire commercial air fleet.
–Every year we make enough plastic film to shrink-wrap Texas.
–The average American throws out 61 lbs of tin cans every month.
–The junk mail Americans receive in one day could produce enough energy to heat 250,000 homes.
–Most cars on U.S. roads carry only one person. We have so much extra room in our 140 million cars that everyone in Western Europe could ride with us.
–Each year Americans throw away 25,000,000,000 Styrofoam cups, enough every year to circle the Earth 436 times.

What can we do about this? Things like remembering to turn off the faucet while brushing our teeth, carpooling, recycling our cups and cans, and putting in requests to stop receiving junk mail is a start. Remember, anything you can do will already help our planet, and no effort is too small.

Worst States For Drunken Driving
If you want to avoid liquored-up drivers this holiday season, steer clear of Montana, which ranks No. 1 on our list of the Worst States for Drunk Drivers.

MONTANA
you want to avoid liquored-up drivers this holiday season, steer clear of Montana. In 2007, the state reported 106 fatalities in crashes involving at least one driver who was legally drunk. That comes out to 11.07 drunken driving-related deaths that year for every 100,000 people living in the 957, 861-person state. What's more, that number is up slightly; in 2006, Montana reported 10.9 drunken driving-related fatalities per capita.

SOUTH CAROLINA
Cautious drivers won't find a haven in South Carolina either. At 10.5 alcohol-related fatalities per 100,000 people, this state falls just behind Montana for most drunken driving deaths.

MISSISSIPPI, WYOMING and LOUISIANA
round out the top five, with 10.35, 9.37 and 8.57 per capita fatalities, respectively.

However, the folks at Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) cite its law against sobriety checkpoints as a bigger problem. Ten states, including Wyoming, deem these checkpoints--where police officers will stop vehicles to determine the drivers' sobriety--unconstitutional, despite a 1990 United States Supreme Court ruling saying otherwise.

No-text Law Goes Into Effect January 1, 2009
Starting January 1, 2009 a new law will go into effect where writing, sending, or reading a text-based communication while driving will be against the law for all drivers in California.
This new law applies to electronic wireless communications devices used to manually communicate with any person using text-based communication, including, but not limited to, communications referred to as a text message, instant message, or electronic mail.
Violating this law is punishable by a base fine of $20 for a first offense and $50 for each subsequent offense. With the addition of penalty assessments, fines can be more than triple the base fine amount.

Oh No what will we do without MOTHER's

When I think of Mother's Cookies, I immediately slip back into my childhood. I remember Sunday School snack, which often consisted of a tiny cup of grape juice and one or two of those pink and white frosted, animal shaped sugar cookies. During high school, my friends and I would often run to the dirty downtown Safeway for snacks to last us through play rehearsal and often, a bag of Mother's Cookies would return to school with us. As of this Monday, there will be no more fresh memories of Mother's Cookies. The Oakland, CA-based company abruptly closed their doors and filed for bankruptcy protection, citing the rising costs of fuel and supplies as the reason. A number of people lost their jobs in the closing and the country lost an iconic cookie.

Today nate's post had 7 random things about him and then he says

"So, there you go. You are more intelligent now than you were 5 minutes ago (because I guarantee nobody knew all of those things about me), which is more than you can say about some blogs. So i thought since i am having a horrible terrible no good very bad day i would sit here at my desk and dream up seven random things about me that mostly likely tim is the only one that knows.

1. When i get up to get dressed each morning. My undergarments match, and they match my shirt. Strange huh????

2. I sleep with a blanket on me every night doesn't matter what the weather is like and i have done this since the days of the night stalker ... my ill-attempt to save myself, see i figure if someone breaks in and they are going to hack me up they have to go through the blanket first, Stranger???????????

3. I take 2 showers a day, doesn't matter if we are camping, in a hotel, visiting friends for the weekend. I will take a shower before bed and one when i get up in the morning. Not the best thing for a state that is suppose to be in a drought. Strange huh ?????????????/

4. I am late to everything i do, even if i get up earlier and leave earlier, Murphy's law makes me late! I am late everywhere, even to say that they changed the wedding from 530 to 600 due to a scheduling error but everyone will blame the bride for being late ... so even late to my own wedding.

5. On my plate of food, my individual items can not touch. Yes my corn and mashed taters aren't allowed to touch, now if it is soup or things that are suppose to touch i am okay with that, but hash browns aren't suppose to touch my pancakes!

6. I never balance my checkbook against my bank statement. Trusting me thinks that the bank can't make an error .... i am way to trusting.

7. I love bracelets. I have one for every outfit!
