Dave is coming home tomorrow (Thursday)!!
Yipee! He is anxious to get home and begin his recovery. He will meet with his transplant team one more time and meet with the drug therapist to go over all his antirejection medicine. Then he will be set free.
We are ecstatic for Dave to come home. Please continue to pray for Dave as he is coming home with a kidney that is still in rejection and he will have to continue dialysis until things change for the better.

A serious bit of news and a funny!
People on MYSPACE have the best graphics, so i was adding my friend Andrea, you may remember me chatting about her ... she is the one whose husband needed a kidney ... well guess what not anymore, Andrea will proudly give her husband a kidney on August 26 .. she rocks, well anyways so i always look at people cool things on their myspace (good thing i dont' stay long i would get fired for getting nothing done at work) and i saw this and about laughed my toosh off .. it summed out exactly how i felt this morning getting dressed.

Update on Dave
Hello All!
We have once again been blessed by yet another giving person that does not know us. Connie had a prayer quilt made for Dave and he received it on Friday after dialysis. It is beautiful. It has 118 knots which equals 118 prayers. You can literally feel the love and strength pouring off this quilt. The person that handmade the quilt left some of the knots untied so we could say a prayer and tie them ourselves. Connie, Dave, Ashlee and I all said 2 prayers each for Dave to add to his new quilt. It is a huge quilt! In addition to this prayer quilt Dave also received another comfy prayer blanket that showed up on our door step from an anonymous sender from Indiana. We are not sure who sent it but we thank you for thinking of us and knowing that we can use all the prayers we can get! Random acts of kindness DO payoff!
Dave will be able to take this quilt and blanket with him on his weekly dialysis sessions since the room is so cold, and he’ll know that he has the strength of God with him. I have posted a picture of the prayer quilt in the photo gallery.
The messages Dave has been receiving have been wonderful to say the least. It is a real emotional boost for Dave to be able to read all the posts and encouraging messages from our friends and family near and far. Thank you so much for adding to our guestbook! I am trying to update my posts a couple of times a week to keep everyone informed so check back often and don’t forget to sign the guestbook each time you visit.

Dave Update -- Its good news
Hi everyone!
Today marks a milestone in the testing for a donor. Dave's mom is in the beginning stages of being tested for a kidney match. Please keep your fingers crossed that they are a complete match.
Dave began dialysis last week, he goes 3 days a week for about 5 hours each session. It is draining on him and totally stinks but he wakes up each day thankful for all the love and support he is getting from our friends and family. Your cards and emails have been a huge encouragement for Dave and we are so grateful!
In an effort to help spread the word about Kidney Disease, we are requesting everyone follow the link below and order your FREE Kidney Health bracelet. Your support for Dave is greatly appreciated. Another DAVE update
So things got a little complicated at the hospital and Dave had to have his catheter inserted and then instead of doing an out patient surgery he was admitted immediately and had to begin dialysis asap. It was unexpected and caught us off guard since we thought we had time. well his metabolic levels were way off the charts and his kidneys were at end stage renal failure.
Let me just tell you how ^&%^(&^)&* it is. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. The entire dialysis procedure was horrifying to watch. Dave didn't fare too well. He was crying, nauseous, light headed, spinning, and felt like he was going to vomit for the whole 3.5 hours! Not to mention that just being able to see the tubes filled with his blood saddled across his chest made him even more puky. It was so hard to see him in such a vulnerable state.
He is home now and can not look to either side due to swelling and stiff neck muscles from the catheter entrance. This should get better within another week, but he can't drive let alone do too much other than play xbox.
So now we are doing donor testing. His dad has already been excluded as a match and his mom is next in line to be tested. However, her weight and the fact that she is on hypertension meds may exclude her too...we'll have to wait and see.

Update on Dave
Hello all,
It is with mixed emotions that I have to tell you that this Tuesday (10/2) Dave will be going into surgery to have a catheter inserted into his chest in preparation for dialysis. Unfortunately the time has come for Dave to start dialysis the week of 10/8; the toxins in his body have reached the point where his kidneys can no longer function on their own.
We are hopeful this will only be for a short period of time since we will begin donor testing within the coming weeks and hopefully find a match within the coming months.
Please send us your prayers during this difficult time, Dave can use all the encouragement he can get!

MY FRIENDS STORY - Keep fighting Dave
I met his wife Andrea when i worked at The Market Place where we became fast friends!
Even after i left The Market Place Andrea and I still talked! I was shocked to read her first email that Dave was sick, even more shocked to learn that he needed a kidney transplant.
Tim and I have experienced what Kidney Failure can cause, see this was the cause of our Beloved Vicente's death; renal failure. Vicente was not a candidate for a transplant and i am most hopeful that Dave will receive a new KIDNEY through the living donor transplant list so that he may watch his beautiful little girl grow up!
Andrea, Dave and Ashlee my heart goes out to each of you! God Speed
With the death of Vicente, i learned the importance of what a donor could do for another, so i promptly changed my drivers license so that i may be a cadaver donor! I urge you all to think of the benefits of being a donor ...

The time has come to spread the word that Dave is in dire need of a living kidney donor. Today Dave was accepted into the kidney transplant program at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. I am asking that each of you send this email to everyone you know on your distribution list, in your address book, forward to your church bulletin board or anyone else that you know of. The more people that know the better the chances are of him receiving a living donor.
Dave Riegler’s Story
Dave was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy (kidney failure) on April 23, 2007. His health is slowly deteriorating and we cringe at every lab test he has done. Dave is 36 years old and full of life; he has been married for 12 years and has a beautiful 9-year old little girl. Dave currently works at a cancer research lab helping men, women, and children receive their lab test results as quick as possible; for he knows what it is like to have to wait for test results when you’re ill. He loves the thought of helping people that are sick, and it is very rewarding to him to make sure that he has taken special care of each one of the specimens that he handles.
Dave is now the one in need of help; he needs a kidney transplant. He anxiously awaits a new kidney on a 6 year waiting list for a cadaver kidney. Six years is just too long to wait, so we are now in search of a living kidney donor. Dave’s kidneys are currently functioning at only 14% and he will most definitely be on dialysis within a year. Our hope is to complete the transplant before starting dialysis since the success rate will be much higher. What was the culprit of Dave’s kidney disease? It was a genetic disease that was lying dormant for 36 years; it became active and developed hypertension which then sent our lives spiraling into this new lifestyle. As we struggle through each day with its ups and downs we are keeping a pretty positive attitude. On a daily basis Dave deals with a renal diet, mood swings, self injected shots, and the emotional stress that comes with the unknown. All of this creates metabolic imbalances that produce more deadly toxins in his body. Dave is a strong, caring, loving person that is unselfish in every way; and it is our goal that he gets back to a normal life very soon!
Those with blood type O would be the optimal choice since that’s what Dave’s blood type is.
