ORANGE aid - Riverside Art Museum

In 2006, the Art Alliance of the Riverside Art Museum
created a giant orange project which scattered artist-inspired
fiberglass fruit around Riverside's streets.

This time, they have shrunk the oranges and
will be creating a grove of over 100 small fiberglass oranges
created by local artists.

Artists have been asked to use the small oranges as a
unique canvas for their talents for a fundraiser that will
take place in November.

The OrangeAID exhibit will take place November 1 - 9. 

The SOLD OUT Benefit and Auction will take place on November 9 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. 

The community can still attend all the free OrangeAID events, November 1-8.

Riversiders who wish to see the artist-inspired small oranges can still do so for free during the week-long show at the museum starting at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, for Arts Walk, and running through November 8 during regular museum hours, Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Sundays, 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.

In addition to seeing the grove of small art oranges, visitors can also shop at the Orange Pop-Up Boutique which will be open during museum hours and features local artisans and home-made items.

What is the HERITAGE HOUSE?

It is an era bygone but not forgotten from a gilded age in Riverside's history.
Owned by the Riverside Metropolitan Museum, this 1891 Victorian showplace depicts life in turn-of-the century Riverside.
An elegant reminder of the affluent homes which once graced Magnolia Avenue, Heritage House began as a project of the Riverside Metropolitan Museum Associates, a volunteer support group of the Riverside Metropolitan Museum.
Restored and maintained in a manner reflective of its nineteenth-century construction, this grand house is now a meticulously researched example of historic tastes, values, and lifestyle.
Mr. and Mrs. James Bettner settled in Riverside in the late 1870s, within a decade of the young town's founding.
A Place - A Time . . . According to an 1895 article in Harper’s Bazar magazine, young couples of moderate means could expect to spend between $5000 and $10,000 in the construction of a house, excluding the cost of a lot. Restoration and development have always reflected the interpretation of such statistics into a local household.
The Bradstreet Index, in 1895, recognized Riverside as enjoying the highest per capita income in the United States. Citizens were indeed prosperous, thanks largely to citrus horticulture, but they were not millionaires. Catharine Bettner's net worth in 1892, for instance, was $18,755 or more than $200,000 adjusted to today's values.

Every year the Moon Festival is celebrated on the 15th lunar day of 8th Chinese lunar month. Traditionally, it is a family holiday, much like Thanksgiving and families gather to watch the full moon rise and enjoy pastries made specifically for the event called “moon cakes”. These small cakes along with hot tea will be available for purchase during the festival.
