Letter Boxing in Big Bear

On september 2nd in an effort to amuse the boys, we went on letterboxing excurisions. I had read about letterboxing in a magazine called FAMILY FUN. So i promptly went to work the next day, did some internet searches and discovered that there were many boxes hidden where we were headed for the weekend. I printed them and safely stashed them, hoping that the boys would be interested.

The first letterbox was not there, yes it was a dud, but the boys still dug around the rock, looking for this mysterious box. We eventually gave up, but not before another family drove by and told us they had no luck in finding it as well. She mentioned that she had printed off 5 letter box locations and this is what they were doing today. And wouldn't you know it we met up with them on our trip to the second box.

This is the second box. Which was actually found by the family that we met at the first station. The boys signed the bear book and placed their stamps inside, and we buried the box again and headed off to find another. I must admit some of the directions were extremely poorly written and we didn't have much luck finding the next one we went in search of. But in my desire to keep the boys interested i suggested a hike. There was to be a letterbox buried on this hike. So gloves on, water bottles filled, stamps in hand, compasses at the ready and shoes tied, we headed up the trail

The boys to my delight followed the directions and found the 3rd letter box. The moved rocks and happily sat down to sign and date and bury the box again.

The boys are thinking now where to bury a letter box. We are thinking one buried at the USMC campground where we stayed would be fun. We shall soon see.

I hope that you follow the link to the letterboxing and find ones in your areas and let me know what was in the boxes.
